Where education meets experience, connection, and opportunity
At Garin College, students experience a balanced lifestyle that includes academic learning, cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and strong friendships. Students are encouraged to get involved, try new things, and make the most of every opportunity both inside and outside the classroom.
A highlight of the year is our Cultural Celebration Day, where students proudly share their cultures through food, performances, and traditional dress — a vibrant and inclusive event that reflects the diversity of our school community.
Our House system and House Games bring students together across year levels, building school spirit, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging through friendly competition and shared experiences.
Students also take part in Journey Camp, a unique programme designed to challenge students, build resilience, and strengthen connections with their peers through outdoor and group-based experiences.
Our Outdoor Education (OED) programmes offer students the chance to explore New Zealand’s natural environment through activities such as tramping, kayaking, and adventure-based learning, helping develop confidence and independence.
Creativity is encouraged through opportunities like our annual Mahi Toi Arts Festival, where students share their talents through performances and exhibitions in music, drama, dance and visual arts that celebrate identity and storytelling.
International students also benefit from a dedicated international programme of school holiday trips, social events, a four week long End-of Year Programme (for students not sitting NCEA exams), as well as organised dinners, outings, and cultural experiences, designed to help students explore New Zealand and build strong friendships.
